Train the standard, not just the movement. Training for the race sandbag lunge is about more than leg strength. You need the right shoulder position, balance, rhythm, breathing, and turn control under fatigue.

  • Carry position: Keep the sandbag across both shoulders.
  • Lunge standard: Alternate lunges with the trailing knee touching the floor.
  • Finish each rep: Stand tall with hips and knees extended.
  • Build the pattern: Start with 3 sets of 10 alternating lunges per side.
  • Add race rhythm: Progress to 4 sets of 20–30 meters with controlled steps and stable bag position.
  • Add fatigue: Use run-to-lunge intervals like 400 m run + 20 m lunges, progressing toward 1 km + 100 m lunges.
